About the project
For the past four years, I’ve been deeply involved with GAMA RAMA in Faro, originally joining the project when it existed in its previous incarnation as a gallery and shop space run by Toma Švažaitė and Miguel Neto. I had my studio there and gradually became involved in curating exhibitions and contributing to the life of the space. When the opportunity arose to transition into a new warehouse building — a former juice factory in Faro — I expressed a desire to take on a more active role within the project. Drawing from more than twenty years of experience developing artist studios, galleries, creative spaces, and retreats in London and Portugal, I became the creative director of the new GAMA RAMA, helping shape both its physical environment and its wider vision. One of the most exciting aspects of the project for me has been transforming the raw warehouse into a vibrant and welcoming creative ecosystem while preserving the spirit of the original building. I designed the layout of the space and helped develop its aesthetic identity, balancing playful use of colour with the industrial character of the old factory, retaining original tiles, flooring, and architectural details wherever possible. Today, GAMA RAMA is home to fourteen artist studios, exhibition and incubator spaces, workshops, and a growing community centred around artistic exchange and collaboration. Alongside Toma and Miguel, I help run the space collectively, and I continue to feel excited by its evolution as a place that nurtures art, ideas, and community in Faro.
