About the project

Omega Project is a public sculpture series created by artist Tom Leamon in Faro in 2025. The project consists of six large-scale totemic sculptures constructed from carved polystyrene forms assembled around central structural supports. Each sculpture is composed of stacked geometric elements painted in bold abstract colour compositions, combining vivid tones, sharp contrasts, and graphic surface treatments. The works explore the relationship between monumentality and impermanence, using lightweight industrial materials to create sculptural forms that appear both playful and architectural. Rising vertically like contemporary totems, the sculptures balance irregular organic carving with structured geometric arrangement, creating dynamic silhouettes visible within the public space. Installed originally in Faro as part of a public art initiative, Omega Project transformed the surrounding urban environment through colour, scale, and repetition. The six sculptures function collectively as a unified installation while each maintains its own distinct visual identity through variations in form, proportion, and painted composition. The project reflects Leamon’s ongoing exploration of abstraction, spatial intervention, and material experimentation, merging elements of sculpture, painting, and installation into a series of vibrant contemporary landmarks.
