The painter

About + Contact.

Tom Leamon is a painter whose work explores transformation, uncertainty and the search for meaning in contemporary life. For more than twenty years, painting has served as both a personal inquiry and a way of understanding the world around him.

Recent work reflects a significant shift in perspective shaped by fatherhood, a deeper awareness of mortality, and a growing desire to reconnect with what feels essential and alive. Nature has become central to his practice — not as escapism, but as a reminder of cycles, resilience and continual transformation.

Leamon is particularly interested in the idea of alchemy: emotionally, spiritually and materially. His paintings often emerge from difficult or uncertain experiences, seeking to transform them into something luminous, humorous or unexpectedly hopeful. Existing between sincerity and absurdity, the work balances darkness with lightness, collapse with renewal.

Humour plays an important role throughout his practice. While the paintings engage with themes of loss, anxiety and disillusionment, they also resist becoming overly solemn. Instead, they create space for curiosity, wonder and moments of joy within the chaos of contemporary life.

At times, Leamon's work questions painting itself — interrogating authenticity, purpose and what it means to continue making art in an increasingly fragmented world. Yet through this uncertainty, a quieter optimism emerges: a commitment to living and creating more freely, and to remaining open, curious and fully engaged with life.

His current practice is less concerned with certainty than with transformation — an ongoing process of becoming, reconnecting and staying alive to possibility.
